Sewage Sandal
After BBC Panorama showed what water companies get up to! South West Water has raised its dividend "by an inflation-busting" 8.3%, despite the sewage scandal. Martin Wrigley, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate said: "This adds insult to injury, whilst shareholders get an inflation busting dividend, local people have to put up with the River Teign and Teignmouth’s beaches suffering from disgusting sewage dumping."
Data released by the Environment Agency shows there were at several separate sewage discharges in our area last year. Polluting our environment with untreated human waste.
Liberal Democrat councillors are calling for much tougher rules on water companies to put an end to this ongoing scandal. Teignmouth town councillor, Steve Welsh said:
“It’s disgraceful that water companies continue to dump tonnes of sewage into our local rivers. It is outrageous that the
Conservative Government continues to let them get away with it.”

Ray of Hope for Teignmouth Hospital
Campaigners from Teignmouth, Shaldon and Bishopsteignton were delighted by the unanimous vote of the Health Committee of Devon County Council to refer the closure of Teignmouth Hospital to the Secretary of State for Health.
Devon County councillor for Teignmouth, David Cox told the PRSD: “We have been campaigning to save our hospital, for over five years. This is wonderful news; we have a chance to save Teignmouth Hospital.”
The League of Friends of Teignmouth Hospital said it could provide almost £1m in funding to refurbish the facility as a recovery hospital and help ease demand on the NHS.
The decision to close the hospital was made by health bosses in 2018.
Local councillors said there was much more pressure on the health system since the original decision.
Teignbridge District Council voted to support the hospital and agreed to write to the Secretary of State for Health to call for a review into the planned closure.
As part of plans to close the hospital, some services have been moved to Dawlish Hospital and there are plans for a new health centre in the town.
However, hospital campaigners said current pressures on NHS hospitals in Devon showed beds were needed.
Susan Cann, who was a nurse at Teignmouth hospital when it first opened, said the facility once boasted 34 beds and an operating theatre.
She said the health system locally was in a "terrible state".
“Torbay Hospital seems to be stuffed up with patients, keeping Teignmouth Hospital open will help" she added.
Councillor Martin Wrigley Teignbridge council leader, said: "Community hospitals can play a really important role in providing those beds that enable people to leave main hospital beds and go somewhere before they go home.
"Places like Teignmouth can provide that opportunity."

Are you struggling to pay your bills?
Teignbridge has distributed hundreds of thousands of pounds over the last few months to help residents who have been struggling to cope with the cost of living crisis.
As winter beckons and cost of living pressures continue, people from all walks of life could struggle to make ends meet. As savings are used up and unexpected bills arrive, many more people may need to seek financial support.
Already this year Teignbridge have allocated some of the district’s share of the £10million allocated to Devon by the government to support people who are hardest hit, such as those who are homeless, low income families and pensioners.
Applications to the Household Support Fund are confidential so if you have never sought support in the past there is no embarrassment in doing so now if your circumstances have changed and you can’t pay your bills and are getting into debt.
Find out more about how the Household Support Fund can help by going to the Council's website and take a look at our Cost of Living web pages for more information on the help that could be available to you from other sources. https://www.teignbridge.gov.uk/benefits-and-support/cost-of-living-crisis/cost-of-living-help-and-support/?fbclid=IwAR06MtihF0SnUih3E5X0-DSHjEC0xV1lrt_AEX5-mK3-BU_UtJIGyLiV0M0
